7 STEPS TO DEVELOP WISDOM

drill down to find then resolve the underlying issue
An old axiom suggests that “wisdom comes from experience and experience comes from making mistakes”. If that were true, there would be an abundance of failed/wise entrepreneurs, managers, and technicians at work and a plethora of wise divorced people in our community—none of whom would repeat their initial mistake..

Unfortunately, too few of us learn from our mistakes—and subsequently pass on opportunities to acquire wisdom. Putting out the same old fires over and over again doesn’t make people wise. Learning from the experience is the catalyst to wisdom.
7 Steps to wisdom:
- Develop a process to track recurring problems
- Prioritize identified problems according to their potential impact
- Select the most *important issue to work on
- Recruit a trusted advisor to help you drill down—to identify the true underlying issue
- Come up with a solution to the selected problem
- Develop an action plan with metrics so that you’ll know that the solution is working
- Ask your advisor to hold you accountable until the solution becomes a habit. Happy people have as many problems as those who are unhappy. The difference is—happy people work on their problems one at a time
