Leadership is equal to the function of (V1), having a mental picture or vision of a place to go or way of being plus (V2) an awareness of underlying core values that you and a critical mass of potential followers within a system believe in, times (SS) the use of skills to send consistent signals through day-to-day behavior in a manner that models personal commitment to the vision and core values.
Effective leaders accept as a given that (C) challenge is a legitimate responsibility of all organization members. When challenges are met with (ALR) appropriate leader responses (“appropriate” meaning consistent with the vision and core values), energy is available for transfer to task. The process of altering balance between (C) and (ALR) as a means of reinforcing (V1) and (V2), therefore, is the essence of leadership.
