TOP CEO RESPONSIBILITY: INSPIRE AND CHAMPION TOUGH LOVE

to enforce values alignment, build an ethics platform
CEOs do not create an organization’s values. They do however clarify beliefs that they and a critical mass of potential followers care about. An easy way to spot a dormant value is to look for chronic situations that really tick employees off.
By LSI publisher Art McNeil
Corporate values and their future tense (vision) serve as a powerful catalyst for the generation of corporate energy. They also provide a platform for delivering on the organization’s brand promise—they align employees. CEO signals of cultural values, delivered by consistent words and deed, will inspire customers, suppliers, and employees.
Once corporate energy starts flowing, resistance to change will dissipate and employees will exhibit passion for the work they do.
Draw a cultural values compliance “line in the sand”
Living a cultural value (in stark contrast to just publishing them) requires discipline. A clear demarcation is required to establishes non-negotiable behavioral boundaries for each cultural value. In our culture shaping workshop, these boundaries are called the “Ethics Platform.” Cultural values are not what is said or written. Rather, they are displayed by what the company tolerates. Effective CEOs champion the immediate closing of any tolerance gap . In order to signal a zero tolerance towards ethics violations, everybody with direct reports (all levels–including the CEO ) should be taught how to conduct a productive performance redirection session
