My eclectic career as; an entrepreneur, business owner, advisor to the CEOs of many fortune list companies around the world, and currently as an online coach to the owners of small to midsize businesses, validates a pragmatic reality—culture is more important than strategy, resources, talent, or history.
Before you read further, let me share a definition of culture that works: “the collective habits that a specific group of people use to get things done”. Nations, communities, companies, families, and individuals with productive habits prosper while cultures based on non productive habits fail.
My first book (published in 1985) was a #1 best seller because it identified culture building as the key indicator of leader effectiveness. Technology and management science is changing at an escalating pace. Today’s advantage can transform over night to become a liability.
The only constant when it comes to sustained prosperity is culture. It is the only means by which wealth and wisdom can be transferred to future generations.
